Welcome to Leskovac!

dobrodosli_eng.jpgIn the heart of the spacious and fertile Leskovian valley, fifty kilometres long and forty five kilometres wide, lies the city of Leskovac. It abounds in a great variety of geographic features and tourist facilities which will attract even the most particular of visitors. Apart from this multitude of features and facilities, Leskovac is also an important transit centre, providing links to Southern Europe (Greece), North-Western Europe via Belgrade, the Adriatic Sea via Priština, and the Black Sea and the Eurasian corridor via Sophia. The territory of the municipality of Leskovac is situated at an altitude between 210 and 240 meters above sea level.

Elections for the Local Community Councils on 24 November

Cvetanovic was one of the speakers at the jubilee celebration of the Serbian Progressive Party organized in Nis on 20 October. On this occasion, Cvetanovic stressed that energy, determination, integrity and a strong desire for change and acceptance of European values​​ have made the Serbian Progressive Party become a generator of change in Serbia, the only hope that people will feel better and have brighter future.

He added that the representatives of the party were constantly talking to the people and listened to their needs, concerns and desires, and their opinions whether they were satisfied with what had been done and what would be done.

In this way, Cvetanovic said, the best was to prepare for the upcoming elections for the local community councils, scheduled for 24 Novembar in Leskovac. He added that the Serbian Progressive Party list would bear the name of the President of the Serbian Progressive Party, Mr Aleksandar Vucic.

Athletics in schools

This is an international project sponsored by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), which organizes and finances training of athletics in schools through national associations and in cooperation with clubs and local governments. Dragutin Topic was the project manager in Serbia.

The "Kids Athletics" project is being implemented in over 30 cities in Serbia, and in Leskovac in primary schools "Vuk Karadzic" and "Kosta Stamenkovic," and in "Desanka Maksimovic" in Grdelica.

"I was fascinated by what I saw. In less than a month the children have made great strides towards nice, athletic and sports future", Topic said after visiting primary school “Vuk Karadzic”.

Horse Races on the Day of the City

After a three-year-long pause in Leskovac racetrack, equestrian club "Dubocica" organized a traditional race on 11 October.

This race was established way back in 1936. It was maintained continuously for 73 years, but in 2010, by the decision of the municipality leaders of that time, its maintenance stopped due to lack of money.

Given the fact that such a long and beautiful tradition does not break easily, the City Council has recently passed a decision on financial assistance in organizing the race in the amount of RSD400,000.

Equestrian Club Leskovac is one of the oldest in Serbia. It was founded in 1924. There are about 30 first-class horses on this horse farm, and horse owners invest a lot of love, energy and willingness into their hobby. Leskovac racetrack is the only one from Pozarevac to the Macedonian border. 

Paving of streets in Gornje Krajince

Mayor of Leskovac, Goran Cvetanovic and Director of Directorate for Urban Planning and Construction, Slavisa Zlatanovic, visited the works in the village of Gornje Krajince. This place has 1.5 km of paved road, with the sewage system introduced in spring.

The value of works is RSD30 million and the contract with the contractor, the Mechanization Company from Vlasotince, was signed in the past year by the Directorate for Urban Planning and Construction.


As part of the Certification Program of cities / municipalities with favorable business environment, which represents the process of promoting standards of efficient and transparent local administration and enables assessment of the quality of services and information that local governments offer to investors and entrepreneurs, and which is implemented by the National Alliance for Local Economic Development and Agency for Local Economic Development on behalf of the City of Leskovac, it is necessary to make a database of available building sites and business premises.

Days of Mexican Culture in Leskovac

As part of the event named "Days of Mexican Culture", an exhibition of photographs taken at the time of the Mexican Revolution at the beginning of the last century was opened in Leskovac Cultural Center, and the film called "Memories of a Mexican" was also shown, which talks about the life of a family during the revolution.

The event was opened by the Deputy Ambassador of Mexico to Serbia, Jose Umberto Castro.

The present guests were also welcomed by the Mayor of Leskovac, Goran Cvetanovic.
